| Purred: Sun Nov 8, '09 9:42am PST | | | | | | I sincerely hope this post is a joke. Cats definitely should not be fed anything like you're describing. Marshmallows? Oh my goodness. Do not feed them marshmallows!
Cats need meat. ALL their food should be meat based. Even treats.

I hope you're not feeding them chocolate, too. That's toxic to cats.

Michis has a real sweet tooth , she eats ice cream , marshmellows and caramel cream. Does she eat them frequently? of course not! She maybe gets one spoonful of melted ice cream (or the equivalent in other sweets) like once a month! We never feed her a whole marshmellow but like half. These things are bad for us too , after all. If its not frquent or too much at a time I dont see why the OP cant give his/her cats a treat from time to time.Michis likes it better than cat treats , thats for sure!

If you're looking for vegetarian treat options for your cat, you can give her a small amount of PLAIN!! yogurt (1/4 tsp for a kitten) or an even smaller amount cottage cheese, or some chopped egg whites, or even unsweetened human baby food. Most cats can't tolerate large amounts of lactose, so try to avoid cream, ice cream or milk. And remember these are treats, so don't overfeed.
Just remember cats are obligate carnivores, so they do need meat, and most cats would never say no to a little bit of plain boiled chicken or canned tuna (in water, not oil).

But I don't think that most of the sweet things that kitties do like are because of the fact that they're sweet. I think it's mostly because certain sweets contain dairy (milk or butter) or a meat by-products (like gelatin or lard). So if yasi and vashi's human wants to make them treats, they don't have to be sugary to be enjoyable to the feline palate.
